Leonado Da Vinci Awards
DS "Penny Black"
Founded in 1975 by the Rotary Club of Florence, there are currently 10
Rotary Clubs - Athens, Florence, Tours, Vienna Ring, Madrid, Brussels,
Würzburg, London, Amsterdam and Dublin, which sponsor an annual Leonardo
da Vinci Prize and host the event in rotation, held on the last weekend of
May.
This year was the 103 year old Rotary Club of London's turn to host
this event. The Rotary Club's Leonardo Da Vinci Award is a substantial
monetary award awarded for significant work in the arts, medicine, science
or literature, subjects inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, hence the
name.
Ian Balcombe, has sponsored a special hand-stamp to mark this event and
produced a Themed Penny Black Anniversary Smilers sheet featuring a label
design commemorating this event.
